Shaun Maloney says Celtic planning for next season should already be done as the club scramble to appoint a manager and backroom team.
Neil Lennon left the club almost two months ago, yet Celtic don’t appear ready to name a successor.
Eddie Howe has been the most heavily linked, but mystery remains about how far along that move actually is.
Maloney, who coaches the Belgium national team with Roberto Martinez and previously coached at Lennoxtown, was on Sportscene tonight dissecting our latest derby defeat.
He’s called for a bit more urgency in making the necessary changes.
Speaking on the BBC programme, he said: “It’s difficult to judge from the outside but I think with the new chief executive coming in, and that being brought forward, it feels that they are trying to accelerate the process.
“They have to really because next season’s planning should already be done.
“The technical director, the coach, these things are linked. The director has to be linked with whoever the head coach is. I think the process has to begin pretty quickly.”
Celtic playing catch-up could compound problems
There are only 12 or so weeks until Celtic play their first Champions League qualifier. That’s no time at all, especially when you consider the potential transfer upheaval at the club this summer.
Celtic really, really need their preferred personnel in at the club over the next two weeks. They at least need to announce it. Howe, or another, probably isn’t going to become boss until the summer. But they can get on with the business of planning for next term without actually coaching the team.

Decisions on players need to be made.
The last thing we need is time pressure making the problems at the club worse than they need to be.
Elsewhere on 67 Hail Hail, £36m received for full-backs and it’s still the weakest part of the team.
