The hopes of supporters returning to Celtic Park later this month have suffered a setback.

Hoops fans haven’t witnessed a live Celtic match since early March, and it was hoped that this would be the month when a limited number could return.

Last month, we told you how September 14th had been pencilled in as the date for fans to start coming back.

However, that “indicative” date has now been pushed back to October 5th – per Chris McLaughlin’s update.

As the BBC reporter states, this Saturday’s Ross County vs Celtic “test event” will still see a limited number of fans in attendance.

But any hopes to have fans in place at Parkhead before Oct 5th, will have to meet government approval on a “case by case basis”.

September games now likely to be off the table

Celtic will undoubtedly be keen to get some fans back into Celtic Park and, given that permission has been granted for two games this weekend, they will feel they are deserving of the chance.

But rising cases in Glasgow and the surroundings areas may mean that any chance of getting fans back this month are put on hold.

That would write off the home games against Livingston and Hibernian, with the following one against Rangers on October 17th.

Rangers were planning to host a test event this Saturday but those plans have been put on hold (Daily Mail) so it’s easy to see a similar scenario with ourselves.

The message is pretty bleak. We’ve waited a long time to get fans back to Paradise. It seems like we may be waiting a bit longer.
