Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn has finally started to deliver in green and white following his January transfer from Rapid Vienna.
The 24-year-old arrived at Parkhead for a fee in the region of £3 million and enjoyed a productive Scottish Premiership debut, scoring an equaliser away to Aberdeen in an eventual 1-1 draw.
Nevertheless, Kuhn struggled in matches thereafter, and Brendan Rodgers has recently revealed the ex-Ajax man had a complicated recovery from dental surgery, which led him to lose over a stone in weight.
Following Hyunjun Yang’s suspension, a space on the right flank opened up against Livingston in the Scottish Cup. Kuhn came in and recorded an assist amid an impressive showing in the Bhoys’ 4-2 victory.
Earning a start against St Johnstone six days later, Kuhn built on his exploits against the Lions, grabbing a goal and laying on Kyogo Furuhashi’s opening strike in the 3-1 triumph, helping his side to leapfrog Rangers in the process.
There is a feeling among supporters that the best is yet to come from the winter arrival, who has offered some much-needed penetration in the wide areas and an ability to beat his marker regularly.
Tam McManus makes comparison involving Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn
Kuhn has managed to settle some preconceptions that originated from the early part of his Parkhead career and now looks set to be a key player once the international break concludes.
Pundit Tam McManus has been impressed by Kuhn’s recent burst to the forefront, which has promoted the 43-year-old to draw comparisons between the German winger and former Celtic favourite Patrick Roberts.

McManus stated [PLZ Soccer]: “Kuhn as well, I think the last two games, he looks quite Patrick Roberts-like, not as good as him, I don’t think, but he’s a similar type of player, he moves similar to Patrick Roberts, he cuts in.
“He put a great ball in for Kyogo’s goal and got a goal himself, so I think those two (Kuhn and Furuhashi) looking sharper in the forward areas is going to help Celtic in the run-in.”
Nicolas Kuhn can be a key creative presence for Celtic
In spite of his frustrating start, Kuhn has began to settle and hasn’t done too badly from a creative standpoint on league duty, averaging around 1.2 key passes per game and creating two big chances [Sofascore].
Being able to return to full fitness has clearly allowed the 24-year-old’s confidence to shine through, and he is able to frequently commit defenders and make things happen by combining his pace and trickery.
Exciting times are on the horizon for Kuhn, and hopefully, he can continue his positive vein of form for the rest of the season.
