Nir Bitton has compared his looks to a zombie on social media following a recent Israel match.

The Celtic midfielder turned centre-back posted an image of himself playing in his country’s 3-1 win over Latvia on Tuesday. Bitton mocked his own looks in the photo – comparing his face to that of a zombie as well as posting the caption “+3” signalling Israel’s three points gained for the win.

The zombie reference won’t be lost in the Celtic support nor on Bitton. Hoops fans have used the word to describe our Ibrox rivals ever since their administration and subsequent liquidation in 2012.

The tune ‘Zombie Nation’ is regularly played at Celtic Park and fans take real enjoyment in rubbing it in to our rivals.

Israel displays show that Bitton is fit

Bitton, meanwhile, played the entirety of both of his country’s recent matches signalling that he is ready to return to the fold at club level. He hasn’t featured for Neil Lennon’s side since limping off in the derby win in September. He was terrific at centre-back that day, so much so that the position may be now be seen as the one where he is most natural.

It will be interesting to see where Bitton features in the Celtic side from now on. He is probably still more of a midfielder but so was Kristoffer Ajer not so long ago. The Norwegian was transformed into a defender by Brendan Rodgers and you wouldn’t be totally surprised to see the same happen to Bitton.

Like Ajer, he has all the attributes to play the deeper position. He reads the game well, is good in the air and can pass out of defence. It’s one worth watching in the next few months.
