St Johnstone winger David Wotherspoon has tipped international teammate Alistair Johnston to be a success at Celtic after completing his January move.
The 32-year-old is well known as a veteran of Scottish Football, having turned out for Hibernian and St Johnstone during his 13-year career.
His time in Perth has also helped him raise his international profile, and Wotherspoon was selected for the Canadian World Cup squad.
Despite featuring for Scotland at youth international level, Wotherspoon has gone on to pick up ten caps for his adopted nation since 2018.
During his time playing for Canada, the St Johnstone man has spent plenty of time with incoming January arrival Alistair Johnston.
Having spent a brief spell with Celtic as a young player and being an experienced name in Scottish Football, Johnston turned to Wotherspoon for advice when the prospect of joining Ange Postecoglou’s squad arose.
Speaking in a recent interview, the midfielder revealed what he had to say to Johnston about a move to Parkhead and tipped his international teammate to be a success in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
He said [Sun Sport]: “He spoke to me about the move a lot, and I told him it was a no-brainer. Celtic are a massive club. He’s a great guy, first and foremost and a great defender.
“You’ve seen in the World Cup what he can do, and I think he’s one of those types of defenders Celtic fans will love.
“Alistair is robust and Mr Consistent. He has the attributes to do well in Scottish football. He’ll be tested in Europe as well, of course.
“The fact he’s played at the highest level of international football now will stand him in good stead. I’m looking forward to seeing him when he comes across and looking forward to playing against him, hopefully as well.
“We could well be on the same side of the pitch. Unfortunately, he knows all about the chop and will be ready for it.”

Ahead of Johnston’s move to Parkhead, the defender has been receiving rave reviews as he prepares for life as part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
As someone who has played with and against Johnston, as well as being an experienced name in Scottish Football, there is arguably no one better than David Wotherspoon to assess how his international teammate will get on.
And the St Johnstone man has nothing but good things to say about the defender, claiming that he will be a player that Celtic supporters will love.
With all the positive reviews we have heard, it is certainly an exciting signing, and I am personally looking forward to seeing what Postecoglou’s latest addition will do when he makes his debut in 2023.
Over the next month, the Canadian will be given some time to settle into life at Parkhead before being able to make his debut from the 1st of January onwards.
Unfortunately for Johnston, he will just miss out on the first opportunity to face David Wotherspoon and St Johnstone on the 24th of December.
However, I am sure he will be raring to go by the time the two sides are set to meet once again at McDiarmid Park on February 4th.
