BBC Sportsound didn’t provide any post-match analysis of today’s Celtic Scottish Cup win over Hearts at Tynecastle, despite having build-up and live commentary.

As we discussed earlier, the Bhoys romped to a brilliant 3-0 win over the Jam Tarts in the quarter-finals of the competition, setting up another big Hampden occasion later this season.

Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner and commentator Liam McLeod took care of live coverage duties from the capital with Kenny Macintyre on hand to host the build-up that included interviews with Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou and Hearts boss Robbie Neilson.

BBC Sportsound halts normal Celtic match coverage

However, immediately following the full-time whistle, McLeod gave a quick summary of the game from the commentary box before Macintyre ended the programme, said post-match coverage could be found online and handed over to two previously recorded podcast programmes. Normally there is extensive analysis plus further thoughts from both camps.

The odd development comes after similar events down south involving BBC 5 Live and Match Of The Day in the wake of the broadcasters’ decision to have Gary Lineker ‘step back’ from the English Premier League highlights show after he criticised the UK Government’s immigration policy and language. The BBC have released a statement on the overall situation this weekend, saying: “We are sorry for these changes which we recognise will be disappointing for BBC sport fans. We are working hard to resolve the situation and hope to do so soon.”

It’s unclear whether Postecoglou will take part in a post-match BBC interview that will be later broadcast on radio or television. Reporter Brian McLaughlin was pitchside before the game to get the thoughts of the Bhoys boss.

Postecoglou did speak to Viaplay Sports 1 on television after the game, sounding pleased with the efforts of his team across the victorious 90 minutes, lauding players such as Joe Hart, Aaron Mooy and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
