“No relevance to us”; Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou bats away media’s daft Rangers question

Ange Postecoglou has fielded some silly questions in his time as the Celtic boss and, despite a clear track record of throwing out daft enquiries, is still getting them even this week.

In his pre-match press conference, the Bhoys manager was asked whether performances from Rangers last season in Europe against RB Leipzig gives his Celtic team confidence of getting a result tonight.

As you can imagine, Postecoglou wasn’t up for entertaining the premise of the question.

Ange said [Celtic YouTube]: “It doesn’t give me anything mate. There’s no relevance to us, what happened last year. From our perspective it’s about what we do.

“We know the challenge that is there tomorrow. They’re a very good side. Since Marco Rose has gone in a few weeks ago you can see they are hitting their stride in terms of their style of football and a better understanding.

“Their result at the weekend was excellent and they have some fantastic players. We’re just concerned with our own performance and make sure we play our football to give them a good test.”

Sometimes you wonder whether the people asking these questions have ever heard the Celtic manager speak before. He is always just going to keep the focus on the processes of his side.

He doesn’t look for comparisons away from that – simply from what he sees in front of him on the pitch when the Bhoys are playing. The idea he would take inspiration from Rangers is laughable.

As Postecoglou notes, Leipzig don’t even have the same manager anymore. Their UEFA Europa League run is largely irrelevant even taking the Rangers angle out of the equation.

It sounds like the Celtic boss is strictly focus on how they’re performing under Rose – as he should be.
