Cameron Carter-Vickers’ defensive stats as a Celtic player are other-worldly.

The Hoops centre-half has racked up clean sheet numbers that would be unthinkable anywhere else.

He has watched his side’s goalkeeper pick the ball out of the net just once this season in domestic football against Hibs and even in Europe when he has been involved has seen dramatic improvement.

Wins over Slovan Bratislava and RB Leipzig and only consolation strikes for the opponents on those evenings.

The big man has only lost FOUR of 110 matches in Scottish football dating across his three years here which is a truly Herculean effort.

But the American is as modest as they come.

CCV does not take credit for those wins. He does not take credit for playing such a significant role in sealing the points or trophies that Celtic have in that time.

Instead he chooses to brush off talk of just how influential and impactful he is at the back for the Scottish champions.

It’s not about Cameron Carter-Vickers, it’s about the team.

“I’m comfortable with it because I know it’s not completely true,” he said of the notion that when he plays, Celtic tend to win.

Cameron Carter-Vickers believes it’s coincidence that Celtic always seem to win when he plays

“It’s not the case that if I’m in the team we win. I can obviously help but it’s on everyone else as well. It’s nice for people to say but the reality is it’s probably a combined effort from everyone.”

But the stats don’t lie.

Carter-Vickers holds onto the memory of the handful of defeats he has suffered in Scotland but there has not been too many.

“I remember the first season I lost to Livingston away,” he added. “I think that was my first loss away from home. We lost Hearts away 2-0, after we went down to 10 men. That was a bit unlucky.

“But, yeah, there’s not been many. To be honest that’s what I pride myself on – the consistency. I try to get it from myself and everyone else. That’s something I definitely care about and try to do.”

The US international, 26, is as key to Celtic’s fortunes as captain Callum McGregor but the defender does not rant and rave as a leader on the pitch.

He prefers to let his actions do the talking.

And he demands from his teammates exactly the sort of effort he himself puts in.

“I don’t really think about that too much. When I’m out there I try to help the team as much as I can,” he said on being a locker room leader and an on-field general.

“If I can affect others and maybe help them raise their game then that’s even better. For me, when I’m out there it’s about trying to help the team win as many games as possible.”
