Odsonne Edouard fitness and training update ahead of Celtic vs Riga
Neil Lennon has relayed Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is ‘ready to go’ for the club’s upcoming qualifier against Riga FC in the Europa League, speaking in his pre-match press conference on the official Celtic YouTube channel.
The manager said: “He’s great yeah, he’s trained well the last few days, so yeah, he’s ready to go.”
It comes after the Frenchman sat on the bench for the weekend’s match at home to Livingston, having told the manager last Friday at Lennoxtown he was too fatigued to play.
Lennon has insisted that nothing untoward happened behind-the-scenes and that Edouard has simply played a lot of matches since recovering from a recent injury.
It’s great news to hear that he is looking good in training and is likely to start tomorrow night away to Riga.
We’ll need our biggest players at their best to overcome the Latvian champions, who picked up some good results at home to European sides last term, including our conquerers Copenhagen.
Nothing can be taken for granted even though the Bhoys are red hot favourites to progress from the one-legged tie.
For all the talk of Edouard’s commitment to Celtic, or lack of, he’s still managed to score five goals and assist another in six games at the start of this season.
It’s not as if he’s downed tools or anything dramatic is going on.
Yes, we might be in for a nervous wait between now and the transfer window closing next month, but no firm offers have come in for the French U21 striker and the noises coming from his camp haven’t indicated he will force a move elsewhere (The Daily Record).
I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do tomorrow. Who’d bet against him scoring?
