As the football season heads towards its climax, the contenders for Scottish player of the year will be revealed sooner rather than later.
One player who should certainly be under consideration for the award is Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. He seems to have flown slightly under the radar this season. However, he has scored some huge goals for the Hoops this season.
It seems that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is getting more plaudits this season. In a way that is understandable as he has scored 29 goals this season.
More important goals
However, despite scoring 18 goals this season it can be argued that Edouard’s goals have been far more important than Morelos’.
He has recently chipped in with two huge late winners that have all but clinched the title for Celtic. The goals against Hearts and Dundee have helped to open up a 10 point lead at the top of the table.
Dealt with a lot
Edouard has had to deal with a lot since Moussa Dembele left Celtic in September to join Lyon. No doubt the duo were set to play as a partnership, but that plan ended as soon as Dembele was sold. That meant Edouard had to play as a lone striker for most of the season.
He has managed to deal with that workload well, and is on course for 20 goals this season. Perhaps a few goals against Rangers on Sunday will get him more player of the year votes. He certainly deserves them.
