Celtic will hope to continue their positive momentum away to Dundee United at Tannadice this weekend after claiming the Premier Sports Cup against Rangers.

The Bhoys came through a dramatic penalty shootout to see off their rivals at Hampden following a six-goal thriller in open play where little could separate both sides.

However, Brendan Rodgers once again pulled his side through the other side, with key stars stepping up from 12 yards to seal a famous triumph at the national stadium.

On the other hand, Dundee United come into their latest Scottish Premiership encounter following a seven-goal encounter at Fir Park. However, they were on the end of a 4-3 defeat to Stuart Kettlewell’s Motherwell.

Having a full week of preparation will be beneficial to Celtic, who have applied themselves across three competitions with crunch midweek matches becoming the norm.

With anticipation soon to build ahead of the Bhoys’ trip to Tannadice, the officiating team for the encounter is now public knowledge.

Tannadice has been a happy hunting ground for Celtic over the years, but the Bhoys will come up against a newly-promoted outfit who have entered the top six picture under Jim Goodwin.

David Dickinson has been installed as referee for the encounter as confirmed by the SFA, while Calum Spence and Craig Ferguson are set to run the lines.

Gavin Duncan has been drafted in as the main VAR operative during proceedings in the City of Discovery this Sunday.

Andrew McWilliam will be on hand to assist should any contentious moments require further scrutiny at Tannadice.

Everyone tuning into the match or in attendance will hope football is the main talking point as league action resumes during the height of the festive period.

Celtic riding high off Premier Sports Cup success

Celtic’s victory over Rangers last weekend will go down as one of the most satisfying derby wins in recent history after the Bhoys overtook their rivals’ all-time trophy count.

Regardless, any thoughts of Premier Sports Cup success will soon enter the back of the mind as they put in the hard yards at Lennoxtown ahead of their last assignment before Christmas.

Extending their lead at the top has to be the priority, with Aberdeen and Rangers keen to try and claw back some ground on the reigning champions on Saturday.

The festive period is purely based on results. As long as Celtic do their job against Dundee United, there is very little other can do but watch on with envy.
