Celtic travel to St Mirren this weekend looking for their third league victory on the bounce after defeating Kilmarnock and Hibernian earlier this month.

Last week, progression to the quarter-final stage of the Premier Sports Cup was also secured following a 3-1 win over Hibernian in the second of their back-to-back fixtures against David Gray’s men.

Brendan Rodgers will be pleased with Celtic’s start to life this campaign. The Bhoys are playing some excellent free-flowing football and will want to lay down an early-season marker to any potential challengers for the Scottish Premiership title.

Nevertheless, St Mirren represent arguably their toughest test of the season so far, given their exploits under Stephen Robinson. The Buddies have recorded one league victory and a loss; meanwhile, they bowed out of the Premier Sports Cup last weekend against Dundee United.

However, their European endeavours will have played a part in that. Despite losing 4-2 on aggregate to Eliteserien high-flyers Brann over two legs, the Paisley outfit ran them close and will feel unfortunate to have not progressed against an established outfit.

Kick-off this Sunday is at 12 p.m., and live coverage of the clash will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football from 11 a.m. Now, the officials and VAR for the encounter have been confirmed.

In pole position, Chris Graham has been appointed as the man with the whistle for this one. He will be supported by assistant referees Calum Spence and Colin Drummond, who will run the lines [Scottish FA].

Steven McLean has been installed as the main operative on VAR duty. Meanwhile, Alan Mulvanny is on hand in case any contentious incidents require further scrutiny. The fourth official for the clash has not yet been named.

Celtic remained unbeaten against St Mirren last term, winning five out of their five encounters against their opponents this weekend.

More of the same would be ideal as the Bhoys aim to retain their spot at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Building early momentum is crucial to erecting the foundations for silverware, so that has to be the motivation once play commences.

Three points at the SMiSA Stadium would set Celtic up nicely for the highly-anticipated Glasgow Derby against Rangers the following Sunday. Hopefully, Rodgers’ men can deliver exactly that. Hail Hail!
