Officials at centre of derby red cards to be involved in Celtic-Hibs cup tie
Two match officials involved in red cards in the Glasgow derby over the last few years will be involved when Celtic take on Hibs in the Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Saturday.
As announced by the SFA, the referee for the game will be Bobby Madden. Whilst one of the assistant referees will be Douglas Ross.
Madden is no stranger to taking charge of big Celtic games. He recently took charge of the Hoops’ 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox, back in September.
Sent-off rival for poor challenge
He didn’t have much to do in that game, until injury time. That was when he sent-off Rangers’ Jordan Jones for a poor challenge on Moritz Bauer. He also sent-off Alfredo Morelos in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers back in March.
Whilst Douglas Ross spotted an elbow by Jozo Simunovic on Alfredo Morelos in another Glasgow derby at Ibrox back in 2018. Thankfully the Hoops managed to win the game 3-2 despite being reduced to 10 men.
Denied two penalties in recent game
The last time Celtic took on their semi-final opponents there were denied what looked to be two good penalty claims in the 1-1 draw at Easter Road.
Hopefully the referee and his assistants won’t have any major impact on the game. The Hoops will no doubt be big favourites to defeat a Hibs side who are currently in a poor run of form.
However, a red card or a penalty could change all that. Celtic will just need to deal with that should it happen. Hopefully they cope with any red card better than they did at Livingston a few weeks ago.
