Oliver Burke has confirmed that he wants to stay at Celtic beyond the end of the season.

The on-loan West Brom man has impressed at Parkhead since his move in January. Burke has hit four goals during his time in Scotland, despite being played in an unfamiliar striking position.

The Celtic move has also shot Burke into Scotland contention. He featured in Scotland’s 3-0 loss in Kazakhstan, and was part of the squad that beat San Marino 2-0. Therefore, the move as a whole has been the right one for the Celtic forward.

And, speaking to Ladbrokes, he confirmed that if it was down to him he would be staying at Parkhead beyond the summer.

“It all depends on West Brom really, and how they feel towards me. We’ll see how it goes. They don’t have a manager, so maybe a new manager will come in and have a look at me.

“If it was down to myself, I would snatch it right up (a permanent Celtic move). I think it’s an amazing club and I’m enjoying my football. I’m very happy here so why wouldn’t I want to stay?

“Like I said – it’s totally out of my hands. We’ll have to wait until the end of the season.”

A key boost for Celtic

Having Burke confirm that he wants the move has to be a boost for the Hoops. Player power could hopefully play a part, and he clearly has a preference for a move to Parkhead.

This is also a massive boost considering Premier League clubs could be keeping an eye on him. Burke could be a wanted man in the summer, but if he wants to choose Celtic over the edge, it’s a big plus in any race for his signature.

Of course, the Scotland international is right to point out his West Brom situation. They splashed out a reported £15million for his services almost two years ago. He’s still got three years left on that contract, and it would be a surprise if West Brom wanted to sell him much cheaper than that.

Hopefully, a deal can be struck in the summer. But, given Burke’s high value, this could mean that the Celtic hierarchy has to be ambitious.

The winger wants to stay, however, and that alone is a timely boost heading into the closing stages of the season.
