The Celtic midfield for the recent Europa League match against Cluj had an unfamiliar look. Instead of the likes of Callum McGregor and Scott Brown, it was the partnership of Olivier Ntcham and Hoops debutant Scott Robertson who started the game.

The Hoops might have lost the game 2-0, but the makeshift side performed well. Robertson did particularly well on his Celtic debut. Ntcham was impressed with how his midfield partner, who is only 18, played on the night.

“Scott was brilliant for us and I’m really happy for him” Ntcham said, speaking to the Scottish Sun.

“He was really calm and really confident with the ball. His work off the ball was good too It shows just how strong a squad we have this season. Even the younger players like Scott are getting better every single year, so it is great for the club.”

It is a good sign for Celtic that so many young players have featured for the first-team this season. Jeremie Frimpong is a regular in the team, Mikey Johnston has featured when he has been fit, and now Robertson was trusted to make his debut in a Europa League game.

Will duo play together again this season?

It will be interesting to see if the duo of Ntcham and Robertson ever play together again for the Hoops. It might not happen again this season, as you have to imagine that the duo of Brown and McGregor will be back in the team from now on.

Hopefully Robertson gets more game time this season though. He has shown that he has plenty of quality, and that will only get better the more games that he plays for the first-team.

As for Ntcham, he has been in and out the team for most of this season. However, he performed well against Cluj, and it would not be a surprise to see him start against Hibs on Sunday.
