Sampdoria defender Omar Colley’s agent has published a telling message on his Instagram story highlighting that his player is ready for the Serie A season.

Celtic were last week reportedly lining up a move for the Gambian international on one condition. The Daily Mail (print edition, 10/09, back page) reported that the Hoops had identified the Sampdoria man as a target, but only if Kristoffer Ajer leaves the club at some stage this summer.

That was then followed by a report from SampNews24 which claimed that Rennes had made contact with Sampdoria in a bid to make a move before Celtic swooped in.

However, despite all of the speculation, it appears there’s nothing imminent for now. His agent, Cheikh Fall, published the following on his Instagram sotry yesterday:

Serie A continues to be the player’s main focus

The video posted by Fall is of Colley scoring in a training game as Sampdoria continue their preparations for the Serie A season. Their first game of the campaign is against Juventus this weekend.

And what this post shows is that clearly nothing is imminent on the player’s future. As things stand, it looks as though Colley is happy to try and fight his way into the Sampdoria side for the Juve fixture.

From a Celtic perspective, it isn’t overly surprising that a move to the Hoops doesn’t seem close. After bagging Shane Duffy on loan from Brighton, it makes sense for the club to only make a move for Colley if another player was to depart.

The Daily Mail (print edition, 14/10, back page) also reported that, despite having a release clause of over £10m, Sampdoria would be willing to discuss a fee for considerably less. That’s one potential reason why this deal could be attractive for Celtic if they need to replace Ajer down the line.

But it appears that neither Celtic, Rennes, nor anyone else for that matter is closing in on the Gambian.

Colley has already scored in pre-season for the Serie A side, and his performance in Saturday’s training match may also bode well for him ahead of manager Claudio Ranieri’s team selection for the Juventus clash.

However, with Neil Lennon’s back three impressing in Dingwall on Saturday, there doesn’t apear to be any urgency from the Hoops with regards to this one.

In other news, KV Mechelen boss Wouter Vrancken has explained why Marian Shved wasn’t involved on Saturday.
