Celtic loanee Liam Shaw got off the mark for Morecambe on Saturday, scoring his first goal since his summer arrival in a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth.
The 21-year-old joined the English League One side on transfer deadline day as he went on the hunt for regular game time down south.
Shaw has previous experience playing south of the border, having originally come through the Sheffield Wednesday academy as a youngster.
After joining the Hoops from Owls in the summer of 2021, the midfielder failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans, making just two first-team appearances.
A loan spell at Motherwell then came earlier this year, but despite positive spells, once again, Shaw couldn’t make himself a regular feature at Fir Park.
Since his move to English League One, the Englishman has found game time on a much more consistent basis and has already made 15 appearances for the club this campaign.
On Saturday afternoon, the on-loan Celtic man was even able to get off the mark with his first goal for the club, which marked the second strike of his professional career.
Shaw produced a delicate finish into the bottom corner to hand his side the lead against Portsmouth after making a well-timed run into the penalty area.
Unfortunately for Shaw and Morecambe, his strike and man-of-the-match performance wasn’t enough to bring home all three points, with the away side producing a leveller of their own in the second half. This was a result which also kept Derke Adam’s side in the relegation zone.
Reacting to his first goal for the club, Shaw said [Morecambe FC]: “I’m delighted. It’s always nice to pick up something individually as well.
“Disappointed we didn’t get the three points for the team and the fans, I thought we massively deserved it.
“Overall, I’m happy with the team performance and proud of everybody.”

It is great to see Shaw get off the mark down south after a difficult last 18 months or so at Celtic Park.
His move to the East End of Glasgow hasn’t worked out as he would have hoped just yet, and his first loan move proved to be a disappointment.
However, now the midfielder is earning more consistent game time, it is providing him with the opportunity to impress and show his worth to those watching closely.
It remains to be seen whether his future remains at Parkhead. But at least now, the former Sheffield Wednesday man is being given the game time to show what he can do rather than having his progress stagnate without that.
