One notable signing made by every Premiership club as Celtic get set for big kick-off

The Premiership returns this weekend with Celtic kicking off the season.

Ross County will visit Celtic Park on Saturday lunchtime with four other matches following on Saturday and Hibernian vs St. Mirren on Sunday.

The new season always brings about fresh hope, for some fanbases more than others, as well as a fair bit of the unknown.

Like Celtic, the rest of the Premiership has been busy in the transfer window this summer.

You can view all of the business that has been done, both in and out, on this BBC page.

But, to keep things simple, we’ve picked out one notable signing made by every club ahead of the big kick-off. A few of them may have escaped your attention.

Aberdeen have done a lot of business and look to have a pretty strong squad. The majority of their incomings have been on a permanent basis but the loan signing of Rhys Williams from Liverpool is an interesting one.

The defender featured a fair bit for the Anfield side amid their injury crisis during the closed-door 2020/21 season. He wasn’t always great, but should be a strong signing in the Scottish top-flight.

Dundee are the league’s new team. Strangely enough, they’ve changed manager since winning the Championship three months ago.

Tony Docherty is their boss now and he’s signed a number of players including Charlie Reilly from Albion Rovers. Reilly was included alongside Matt O’Riley and Liel Abada in the PFA’s Young Player of the Year nominations last season.

A couple of former Celts have returned to the league. Hearts have signed goalkeeper Michael McGovern while Kilmarnock have brought Stuart Findlay back to the club on loan.

Hibernian announced the signing of forward Dylan Vente from Dutch side Roda JC this week. The 24-year-old has a really impressive scoring record in the Netherlands, and should net a fair number if he gets the service at Easter Road.

Livingston have lost a number of important players and don’t seem to have replaced them yet. Mikey Devlin will at least give them some assuredness at the back if he can stay fit.

Motherwell have brought in Jon Obika permanently. The former St. Mirren man was on loan with them for the second-half of last season and knows where the goal is.

Rangers have signed goalkeeper Jack Butland from Crystal Palace. The shot-stopper is a friend of Hoops keeper Joe Hart, but has had some mishaps in friendly matches.

Ross County have brought in midfielder Kyle Turner from Partick Thistle — the team they defeated dramatically in the play-off final. Turner was impressive for Thistle last season and may go under the radar as one of the better summer signings.

St. Johnstone’s acquisition of goalscorer Luke Jephcott looks to be a shrewd one. The forward has joined from Plymouth Argyle, where he had a good record.

Finally, St. Mirren’s loan signing of attacker Stav Nahmani from Maccabi Haifa looks interesting at least.
