Celtic’s season hasn’t been anything to write home about so there is probably no surprise to see that only one of their players features in the Scottish Premiership’s best XI at the halfway point.
19 games have been played and the Hoops are second in the table after a disastrous run of form that has seen Wilfried Nancy lose five of his seven games in charge.
It’s hard to pick out any real standout player in the side but The Scotsman has included one player in their team that is largely made up of players from table toppers Hearts.

The Celtic star named in SPFL best XI
Most years would see four or five Celtic players feature in the XI, but only one did enough to be included and that was Benjamin Nygren.
The Sweden international has been inconsistent at times but is the top scorer with eight goals and also has two assists to his name.
Nygren doesn’t necessarily run games for the full 90 minutes but does have the ability to pop up with goals out of nowhere.
There is certainly more to come, but when justifying their decision, The Scotsman said: “You simply cannot argue with the Swede’s stats. While he can drift in and out of games, 10 goal contributions (eight goals and two assists) point to one of the league’s most potent players in the final third.
“A summer steal for Celtic at £1.7m from Nordsjælland, he has been one of the few success stories the club have had in the transfer market of late.”
Who is the most important player in the Celtic squad?
Benjamin Nygren is the key for Wilfried Nancy
Nancy revealed that he wanted to sign Nygren at Columbus Crew, and it is clear to see why.
Under his stewardship, the 24-year-old has looked like one of the few players who has benefitted from the system change and is going to get better.
He may not always produce A-star displays, but he is one of the few that can hold his head high and maybe save Nancy’s job.
