There was an interesting footnote to Ismaila Soro’s first press conference after completing his move to Celtic. The Ivorian midfielder disclosed that he had spoken to his compatriot Vakoun Bayo before making the move to Glasgow.
Soro revealed that Bayo had nothing but good things to say about the club.
“Bayo has told me great things about Celtic and the fans, so I couldn’t be more excited to be here” Soro said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
Only two starts this season
It is a good thing that Bayo seems to enjoy life at Celtic. This is despite the fact that he has not played that often for the club this season, making only 13 apperances, and only two starts in that time.
However, even though Bayo has ‘great things’ to say about the club, he could still depart the Hoops before the end of the January transfer window.
The reason that could happen is that between now and the end of the season his chances of playing first-team football will likely recede quite badly.
Perhaps fourth choice striker at club
Indeed, it could be argued that he is now the fourth choice striker behind Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala.
Therefore, it could be a good idea to send Bayo out of loan before the window closes. It should be remembered that the player seems quite receptive to a move.
The Scottish Sun reported two weeks ago that the player had ‘requested’ a loan move, and hadn’t ruled out a move to another Scottish club.
Neil Lennon swiftly denied that the player would be leaving.
However, the recent good form of Griffiths and arrival of Klimala could mean that Lennon’s view on his striking situation has changed.
Therefore, Bayo could move on before the end of the window. The move could benefit the player, as he could finally get some regular playing time, which could help him at Celtic next season.
The next few days could prove to be very interesting regarding Bayo’s future.
