Our View: Fresh Kris Boyd comments prove Celtic reality is sinking in

Kris Boyd has summed up the difference in the squads of Celtic and Rangers, as reality begins to set in for the retired forward.

Neil Lennon’s men are going for their tenth title in a row this season, although many expect the race to go to the wire.

However, it appears that former Gers man Boyd can see a disparity in the value of both squad’s as he previewed the new season on Sky Sports’ new Scottish Football Podcast. (Available here on Spotify)

Boyd said: “When you look at Celtic, they could sell the likes of Olivier Ntcham who’s been a bit part player over the last while.

Postecoglou hints at big week of Celtic announcements

“They could sell him and probably get in the region of £10million.

“I think Rangers are at the stage where if they sell Alfredo Morelos, who is arguably been their best player, they’re losing their top talent.

“Celtic have got a squad where they could probably sell one or two and generate massive sums of money without having to sell their stars.”

Boyd is right to point out superior strength of Celtic squad

Boyd is right to acknowledge that Celtic have far more highly-rated stars who could move on and earn us some coin.

Ntcham is a great example as he’s probably worth more than virtually any Rangers starter – and can’t even get in to our first-team.

Of course, values are subjective until a team actually pays an amount. But many Celtic fans would expect Ntcham to leave for a similar fee to Morelos at some stage in the coming years.

Added to Ntcham, we also have players like Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor, Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard who would fetch a lot of money in the transfer window.

Whether we will decide to move on any key players this summer is an altogether different question.

Apart from the usual rumours over Edouard and Ajer, there has been little chat about any high-profile Celtic stars leaving the club.

Hopefully they can all stay put and show the gulf in quality that Boyd clearly recognises.

In other news, new Celtic signing Vasilis Barkas has sent out a positive message in his first interview as a Hoops player – by saying he wants to land 10 in-a-row.
