Our View: Loan move can help Jack Hendry, but time at Celtic may be up

Jack Hendry’s impending loan departure for Celtic will not really come as a shock to anyone connected with the club. The player has rarely featured for the Hoops in the last year, and has made only one appearance under Neil Lennon.

The Daily Record reports that Hendry is set to move to Australian side Melbourne City on loan until the end of the season, and that is the best thing that can happen to the player.

Hendry can use the move to get his career back on track. After a promising spell at Dundee, it seems to have stalled at Celtic.

It has to be said though, that even if Hendry does well in Australia, he is unlikely to have much of a future at Celtic Park.

Not close to Hoops first-team

Hendry has just not impressed at Celtic when he has been given the chance. At the moment, he is far from returning to the Hoops first-team.

Therefore, it would be in the best interest of all parties if he moved on at the end of the season. There is no word on if his move to Melbourne has an option to buy, but that should he perform well in Australia then maybe the loan deal could be extended.

Was a Scotland international not that long ago

It was not that long ago that Hendry was a Scotland international. For him to get back to that level, he needs regular game time, that has just not happened in the two years he has been at Celtic.

Hendry is only 24, so he has plenty of time to get his career back on track. However, that is probably not going to happen at Celtic Park.

Sometimes moves don’t work out for players, and that has been the case with Jack Hendry and Celtic. Hopefully he does well in Australia, and can perform at the standard which persuaded Brendan Rodgers to sign him in the first place.
