Former Celtic striker Patryk Klimala created his second assist on his second start for New York Red Bulls earlier today.

Klimala completed a move to Major League Soccer back in April after finding opportunities limited at the Bhoys.

He initially had to remain patient for chances but has featured from the start in their last two fixtures.

Today he played alongside new strike partner Fabio for the first time and managed to set up the 24-year-old’s goal in a 2-0 victory over Nashville SC.

The Polish striker was delighted, telling NewYorkRedBulls.com: “We train a lot of things like in the pressing, when we defend, when we are attacking. I feel comfortable with Fábio. It’s okay for me because I can play with anybody, but it worked today with Fábio, and he scored the goal. I gave him the assist, and I’m happy we won the game.”

Patryk Klimala is impressing his boss

Head coach Gerhard Struber is already seeing the beginnings of a very fruitful understanding.

He lauded both Klimala and Fabio after the match, telling the club’s official website: “I can see today that Patryk and Fábio, they have a good connection together. They make many, many good movements.

“Very interesting, Patryk with his outstanding movements and with his pace, it’s not easy to handle. And yeah, Fábio it was very good for him to score and this gives him a lot of confidence for the next big games.”

Klimala has always had obvious pace and raw attributes to be an effective striker. However, it was also apparent he just wasn’t the right fit for Celtic or the opposition he goes up against.

In MLS, teams will be sitting in against NYRB far less than our opponents in Scotland. That gives Klimala more space to utilise his best traits. There are also obvious benefits of playing alongside a strike partner rather than being tasked with leading the line on his own.

It’s nice to see him land on his feet over there and impress. Hopefully he can get himself in amongst the goals and make the most of his move. Good luck Patryk!

In other news, Celtic boss already has knowledge of FC Midtjylland and one of their attacking threats.
