Coyle revealed he met Desmond during a European night at Celtic Park a couple of years ago and made it clear the pair remain on good terms.
However, it was what he chose not to say that stood out most.
He said: “I have a good relationship with Dermot and spoke to him a couple of years ago at a European night at Celtic Park. We’re fine.
“What happened then is part of my story and there are some things I reserve the right to keep to myself.”
Those are unusual comments to make publicly. If Coyle wanted the conversation to remain entirely private, he could simply have declined to mention it.
Instead, he acknowledged the meeting before immediately drawing a line under any further discussion.
