Pat Bonner believes Brendan Rodgers is about to make a signing to ‘finish’ off his Celtic team

Pat Bonner reckons Brendan Rodgers is ready to dip into the transfer market for Celtic again this January.

The former Celtic hero was looking at the squad available to Rodgers ahead of Celtic’s Champions League win over Club Brugge when he said the Hoops boss could spend more money next month.

Rodgers has already spent upwards of £30m in the summer after he added Arne Engels, Auston Trusty, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan to the Celtic ranks.

And with January just around the corner, Bonner says he thinks the Celtic boss ‘will go to the market’ again and get another player to ‘finish’ his team.

Pat Bonner thinks Celtic will sign a player who will cost ‘a bit of money’ in January

Bonner told BBC Radio Scotland, “He’s here for the period. He’s enjoying himself at the moment. He’s building a team. And I think there’s a little bit more to go on.

“I think he’ll go to the market again and try and find the player that could come in alongside Callum McGregor.

“Callum could play, actually, for the forward to the team. But when it comes to Europe, where you’re looking for maybe two players to play in that sort of two number sixes, I think he could do with one, let’s call it bigger, stronger, but technically still a good player.

“And that may take a bit of money, but it also, I think that could be the one that would finish this team off for me.”

Pat Bonner emphatically shuts down talk of Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic when Leicester City job opened up

With the Leicester City job becoming available last week after the Premier League side sacked Steve Cooper, Bonner shut down talk of Rodgers potentially leaving Celtic.

Bonner continued, “And so I think he’s enjoying what he’s getting at the moment with his team and he’s enjoying his football, Brendan Rodgers.

“So I don’t think that would even be on his radar, even thinking about leaving this job in any period of time.”

The Foxes hired Ruud van Nistelrooy for the Leicester hot seat yesterday so Celtic fans, not that they really were anyway, can stop thinking about that.

But what Bonner is saying about Rodgers at Celtic does ring true. The Northern Irishman looks relaxed, happy and content at Parkhead more now than at any other time 67 Hail Hail can remember.

The Celtic boss is being backed in the transfer market, is enjoying success in Europe and is dominating Scottish football to boot.

And with the January window fast approaching, Celtic fans will be hoping that Bonner is correct and that Rodgers is ready to dip into the transfer market again
