‘Pathetic’, ‘Like Follow Follow’; Some Celtic fans ridicule BBC Scotland response to SPFL letter

Some Celtic supporters have taken issue with BBC Scotland’s framing of the letter sent to clubs by SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan today.

As we discussed earlier, MacLennan wrote an extensive document for clubs who are considering how to vote in an upcoming EGM instigated by Rangers, Hearts and Stranraer.

In it, the Hampden official robustly defends the SPFL’s actions in the face of allegations and currently withheld evidence that Rangers claim they have.

He also warns of the potential for ‘uncapped expenditure’ that an investigation will bring.

In an article titled “Why does league seem so worried about independent inquiry?” journalist Tom English offers opinion on the ongoing battle between the league body and the Ibrox side.

He’s critical of the SPFL decision-makers in the piece, feeling that they are not adequately addressing ongoing concerns, even though no evidence of wrongdoing has been produced.

As quoted by BBC Scotland, English writes: “If there’s nothing to fear, and if the odds are overwhelmingly in their favour of being cleared of any of the current allegations, why are they on the rampage to close down the possibility of the inquiry? They should be encouraging it.

“MacLennan sought to answer some questions in his open letter on Wednesday. He got something of an easy ride, which was not surprising given that the person interrogating him was, er, himself. His Q&A, though lengthy, was not all that helpful.”

Some Celtic supporters, however, don’t understand why there is not more scrutiny being directed in the direction of Ibrox, feeling that our rival’s secretive stance is not doing Scottish football any good at all.

With really critical issues facing the game here, should clubs not be more focused on how to survive the current crisis rather than looking for blame?

Would a more pertinent question not be, why do aggrieved parties seem so worried about producing evidence of wrongdoing?

These Celtic supporters have taken to Twitter today to share their thoughts on it all…
