Paul Scholes and Roy Keane put Celtic hero Martin O’Neill in an unfortunate category

There was nobody more delighted than the Celtic supporters when Martin O’Neill returned to the dugout in October.

The last time O’Neill was on the touchline was in 2019, when he was alongside Roy Keane, and they spent a small amount of time at Nottingham Forest.

But this was the first time Celtic’s legendary coach was back in Glasgow since the mid-2000s.

Therefore, seeing O’Neill’s celebratory jump after a goal, including wearing his touchline tracksuit, put a smile on many Celtic supporters’ faces.

Interestingly enough, O’Neill’s famous tracksuit was given a mention, for the wrong reasons, on the Overlap.

What permanent role would you give Martin O’Neill at Celtic?

Celtic hero Martin O’Neill mentioned alongside ‘worst-dressed’ managers

Gary Neville brought up the topic of, ‘Who is the worst-dressed manager?’ on the touchline.

Some big, big names were mentioned, including the great Brian Clough, and the ‘green jumper’ he would wear during his famous days at Nottingham Forest, which included winning two European Cups with a fresh-faced O’Neill on the flanks.

But that’s when Paul Scholes threw in O’Neill’s name, with Keane agreeing, and how he ‘loves that tracksuit.’

In defence of O’Neill, he probably hasn’t been the worst-dressed Celtic manager this season because that probably belongs to Wilfried Nancy, and that coat.

To be fair, Jill Scott did try to score some brownie points for O’Neill and his much-talked-about tracksuit.

Gary Neville: “Shall we do a worst-dressed manager? Worst-dressed manager when you look on the touchline.”

Roy Keane: “Some of the Manchester United managers recently.”

Neville: “Oh yeah, yeah. I agree.”

Paul Scholes: “Do you remember Freddie Ljungberg when he was manager for a couple of weeks (at Arsenal)? He had a knitted jumper. He looked right scruffy.”

Ian Wright: “I remember Dychey (Sean Dyche). When (John) McGinn said something about his coat.”

Neville: “The obvious, Brian Clough. One of the great managers of all time. He wears just the green jumper.”

Scholes: “Martin O’Neill, no?”

Keane: “Martin, with the tracksuit.”

Scholes: “He loves that tracksuit.”

Jill Scott: “I think the tracksuits are good because you are like ready for the game.”
