It seems that there are very few dull moments at Celtic these days. Even in the close season, there is always something intriguing going on.
The latest development involves veteran right-back Mikael Lustig. He made some comments to Aftonbladet that seem to indicate that he will be leaving the club on a free transfer this summer, and that he isn’t happy about that.
Manager wanted player to stay
It would be very interesting to get Celtic boss Neil Lennon’s views on this. After all, he wanted Lustig to stay at the club, on perhaps a two-year deal.
That doesn’t look like it is going to happen though, and he can’t be happy about that. Lennon will understand though that these things happen in management.
In his first spell as Hoops manager he would have wanted players to stay at the club that ended up leaving. It will be a bit of a blow for Lennon though if Lustig leaves.
Hoops will need to sign two right-backs
It is understandable why he wanted to keep the player at the club, as he is so experienced. However, it now looks as if the Hoops will need to buy two right-backs before the transfer window closes. That might not be easy to achieve.
Perhaps when the Hoops return to pre-season training on Monday Lennon will give his thoughts on the Lustig situation. His thoughts on the matter would certainly be of interest to the Hoops support.
