Celtic fans will be glad that domestic football returns this weekend.
It allows for all the talking to stop, and there has been a lot of it in Glasgow over the October international break, especially with Rangers sacking Russell Martin and looking for a new manager.
There were suggestions that Steven Gerrard could return to Ibrox, but he turned that opportunity down, as Celtic hero Peter Grant wasn’t having any of it if he had returned.
After Gerrard had won one trophy out of nine in Glasgow, Grant clearly didn’t rate Gerrard, despite the hype around him from Rangers supporters, but he thinks differently of Kevin Muscat.

Celtic hero Peter Grant on Rangers possibly appointing Kevin Muscat as manager
Gerrard won’t be the next Rangers manager, but there is a chance that it will be Muscat, and Grant rates that appointment far better, especially when he looks at it with his Celtic hat on.
For two decades now, Celtic have dominated Scottish football, enjoying trophy success after trophy success, on top of the fact that Rangers have been woeful beyond words.
But Grant’s positive comments towards Muscat possibly coming in won’t sit easily with the Celtic Park faithful.
“I said to you, at the time, when they were talking about Steven Gerrard,” said Grant. “I was quite happy being the supporter of the team from the other side of the city. No, (I didn’t rate Steven Gerrard).
“I looked at it and said, ‘Kevin Muscat or Sean Dyche.’ They are the type of guys, I think, Rangers need at this moment in time.
“If they want to be competitive, which I don’t think Rangers are, I don’t think they have that group of players like that. You can’t bring that, but they will know what they need pretty quickly.
“Kevin knows the club, and he has been mentioned a few times. Sean Dyche has knocked it back.
“But Steven Gerrard, I looked at it and thought, ‘well, he will need very good coaches around about him.’ It’s okay being at the forefront, being the manager and doing the press. But you still have to be able to do things on that training pitch.
“I believe that the guys that have been mentioned since, and even prior to that, I looked and thought, ‘Rangers need them more than they need a Steven Gerrard.’ If he loves Rangers so much, I am sure the deal would have been done.”
Grant compares Muscat to Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou
Muscat is the current manager of Shanghai Port, who are the champions of the Chinese Super League, as he also managed Yokohama F. Marinos.
That will sound familiar to Celtic supporters because it’s where Ange Postecoglou arrived from during the summer of 2021.
And as Grant pointed out, Postecoglou went on to become a huge success.
“(Muscat) lost his best players, so it shows he has got something about him,” added Grant. “It doesn’t matter what level. Ange did the exact same thing, and how a success he was at Celtic.
“He is having a wee bit of a tough time right now. But he did it with the national team as well. He got these players playing for them.
“You listen to those players who played for him, when he came to Celtic, he was popular with them all.”
