The Peter Lawwell reign as Celtic CEO has formally ended after the club submitted a termination of a director document to Companies House yesterday.
Lawwell has effectively been sidestepped for the last month. Dom McKay started to take a more prominent and public-facing role during his transitional period.
However, Lawwell’s day to day dealings with Celtic have now officially ended.
McKay has confirmed Lawwell’s position on the ECA board will continue for another two years, while he will be available to the new CEO for advice should he need it.
Lawwell has served as an Executive Board Member of ECA since March 2014, has been a member of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee since 2015 and was elected as one of ECA’s four representatives on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) in August 2017.
Continuing to have him in place in those positions is beneficial for Celtic.
Peter Lawwell enjoyed incredible success with Celtic
Lawwell joined Celtic in October 2003 from his position as Commercial Director with Clydeport. Previously, he held senior positions with ICI, Hoffman-La-Roche and Mining Scotland.
Since then the club has enjoyed phenomenal trophy success. However, in recent years especially, supporters have grown weary of his leadership and change was undoubtedly required.
The responsibility of success now falls on McKay’s shoulders, who has inextricably connected himself to the appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Ultimately Lawwell’s legacy at the Bhoys will be remembered fondly on the whole. But it may take a while for fans to get over the horrors and mistakes of last season.
A resurgence this term would certainly help that.
