Peter Martin’s Celtic stance questioned as Rangers fans face away ban at Parkhead

Celtic’s titanic post-split fixture clash against Rangers is still weeks away, but it hasn’t stopped the fixture from dominating the headlines right now.

On Friday night, news came through that Rangers supporters would not be provided an allocation for their away trip to Parkhead on Sunday, May 10.

That has resulted in Rangers re-living the good old times by throwing their toys out of the pram and complaining to the SPFL, which Peter Martin has suggested is the ‘right’ call.

The host of PLZ Soccer even suggested that Celtic would have been better off if they ‘worked quietly in the background’ regarding this issue.

But as you can imagine, many of the Celtic Park faithful have taken umbrage at Martin’s comments, and rightly so.

Has Celtic and Rangers’ rivalry changed?

Celtic right to stop Union Bears from entering Parkhead

First and foremost, Celtic have tried to work ‘quietly’ in the background by asking Rangers not to provide tickets to the Union Bears.

Do people have short memories regarding the Scottish Cup quarter-final?

Even Martin himself stated that the powers that be need to ‘restrict the rogue element of balaclava-wearing troublemakers.’

But unless the champions of Scotland have missed the memo, what has happened to those ‘balaclava-wearing troublemakers?’

“Rangers are right to go to the SPFL board to complain about Celtic’s attempt to dictate who attends the game in the away section,” wrote Martin on social media.

“It would have been better to work quietly in the background together to try and restrict the rogue element of balaclava-wearing troublemakers”

On-field three-way title battle deserves the headlines

Scottish football has never been here before. You have a mammoth three-way Scottish title battle, yet the headlines are not what everyone wants.

It’s a huge shame because you just know what is around the corner, and that’s empty away stands for the Glasgow derby next season.

Everyone can read it a mile off, and at the end of the day, it’s those who follow their clubs up and down the country who will miss out.
