Next month, a group of former Celtic players will take part in the return of the popular Master’s Football tournament.

The competition, which sees a host of famous football faces go head-to-head in a game of six aside football, was made famous by Sky Sports between 2000 and 2011.

After a 10-year absence, the iconic tournament will be returning and taking place at Braehead on the 8th of July next month.

Football fans will be able to attend the event and watch online on 360 Sports TV as the four teams play out the fast-paced 16-minute games, in which each side must play each other once before the two top teams contest a play-off to decide the winner.

Celtic will make up one of the four sides, with Glasgow rivals Rangers and English giants Liverpool and Manchester United also joining them.

This afternoon, the Hoops team was announced for the tournament, with some club heroes being named amongst the squad taking part.

Popular former Parkhead figures such as Stiliyan Petrov and Joe Ledley will be joined by the likes of Kelvin Wilson, Kris Commons, Rab Douglas and Mark Wilson.

Whilst making up the squad is a man who spent a very brief spell in Glasgow under Ronny Deila in 2016, Carlton Cole.

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown was expected to be amongst the Celtic side and was named as one of the headline players of the tournament shortly after his retirement.

However, the 35-year-old has since taken up the managerial role at English League One side Fleetwood Town and will be focussing on preparations for the season ahead.

Another ex-Celtic great, Martin O’Neill, was rumoured to potentially be managing the squad of former Celtic players. But, there has been no confirmation of this as of yet.

I am sure this should prove to be an entertaining evening at the beginning of next month, with the chance to see some Hoops heroes pull on the green and white Hoops once again.
