More protest banners have been unveiled at Celtic Park in protest to the potential appointment of Bernard Higgins in a senior security and safety role at the club.

Rumours have been rife in recent weeks that Celtic have been on the verge of appointing Higgins. It has sparked widespread fan protest, with media outlets, organisations and supporters clubs all registering opposition to Higgins coming on board.

Tonight another banner was unveiled stating: “Cold pies? Fan forum. Fan behaviour? Statements. Bernard Higgins? Silence.” You can see it below or via this link, with Go Radio journalist Jo Hendry posting pictures from Celtic Park.

Silence is the theme of the action this evening with fan groups The Green Brigade, North Curve Celtic and Bhoys all maintaining a silent protest throughout the 90 minutes, rather than creating a famous European atmosphere at the stadium.

It was explained by the groups involved earlier this week. Fans are unhappy with no response from Celtic acting CEO Michael Nicholson or the club regarding the potential appointment.

There’s still hope Higgins will not take up the position. In fact, rumours have circulated on social media in recent days that will in fact be the case.

However, the protests will continue as long as Celtic continue to maintain their policy of not communicating with concerned fans on the issue.

The silent protest from some fans at the stadium could continue this weekend too, with the groups leading the way tonight threatening similar action in a crucial league game at home to Motherwell on Sunday.

Let’s hope the club reach out before then.
