Photo: Daizen Maeda officially unveiled in the hoops; Celtic squad number revealed
Daizen Maeda has been unveiled by Celtic at Lennoxtown today as he wastes no time in making preparations for first-team training next week.
The former Yokohama F.Marinos attacker has joined on an initial loan with a compulsory purchase option and will sign a long-term contract at the Bhoys in the summer.
He’s been given the squad number 38, which was the number he wore with the Japanese club prior to his arrival at Celtic. The club have posted photos online which you can see below or via this link on Twitter.
Maeda arrives as the J1-League top scorer for 2021, after firing in an impressive 23 league goals. It’s a serious addition of firepower to a Celtic attack that has struggled to take all of its chances in tight games recently.
Either playing off the left, beside Kyogo, or even as his compatriot’s rotated replacement, we’re likely to see plenty of the 24-year-old in the second half of the season.
That he has managed to arrive in Glasgow immediately without any quarantine restrictions is great news and should ensure a similarly quick arrival for Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate over the coming days.
All three new signings will now also have the benefit of a couple of weeks of training before our first competitive match of the new year against Hibs on January 17th at Celtic Park.
Bring it on!
