Photo: Yosuke Ideguchi officially unveiled at Lennoxtown; first interview, Celtic squad number revealed
Yosuke Ideguchi is the latest Japanese Bhoy to be officially unveiled as a Celtic player at Lennoxtown, posing for photos with club media this afternoon.
Ideguchi will wear number 21 at Celtic, which was a squad number he previously wore at Gamba Osaka, during his first spell at the club.
At Celtic, the number has been used by Charlie Mulgrew and Olivier Ntcham amongst others. The club posted photos on Twitter which you can see below or via this link.
The midfielder has also given his first interview as a Celtic star, telling the official club website: “When I was in Japan, I watched his team and I was interested in the style, so I’m excited to be able to join his team. I’ve spoken to the manager and he said that he’s looking for me bring my style of play to the team.
“It certainly helps me in joining Celtic to have Daizen and Reo here are well, and I’m hoping to contribute to the team along with them.
“How Kyogo is playing is already big news in Japan. I respect him and I’m really looking forward to playing with him, along with my other team-mates.”
Ideguchi will be competing for the deeper midfield positions behind a central attacking duo, if Ange Postecoglou retains the formation he’s been using most at the Bhoys.
That makes his direct competitors for a starting berth Callum McGregor and Nir Bitton, so the Japanese player has his work cut out for him.
However, he adds real depth to the squad and the manager will know exactly how to use him in this team. It’s further optimisation of Ange’s options, which can’t be a bad thing.
