Thousands of Celtic supporters have lined the streets at Celtic Park to pay tribute to one of the club’s legends. Billy McNeill’s funeral procession arrived at the stadium at around 2pm on Friday.
Earlier on in the day, some of the club’s greats had attended an emotional funeral service.

Former Hoops managers including Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill were in attendance at St Aloysius’ Church. Neil Lennon and his current first team were also there along with some of McNeill’s former teammates.
Wider footballing icons such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish also joined in the ceremony.

However, it was at Celtic Park where the real crowds gathered. McNeill’s family has previously praised the Celtic support and asked them to show themselves once more.
The Hoops faithful certainly did that again as they queued on the Celtic Way to say goodbye to McNeill.

Crowds were heard cheering and seen throwing scarves onto the hearse as it slowly proceeded past the stadium.
Celtic’s players will pay a final tribute to McNeill during the Scottish Cup final later this month. Hoops stars will wear McNeill’s former number five on their shorts when they face Hearts. The match comes on the 25th May – the famous date when McNeill and the Lisbon Lions lifted the European Cup.
