Portuguese Report: Braga enquire about Yan Couto after Celtic link
Braga have enquired about Manchester City’s Celtic-linked youngster Yan Couto, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.
The report claims that Couto is on a list of targets identified by Braga to bolster their defensive ranks. This comes after the right-back secured 30 appearances on loan with Girona last season [Transfermarkt].
Sky Sports reported last week that Celtic were hoping to bring in Couto with the club going through a right-back crisis. It was said at the time that Portuguese clubs were also interested.
Now, however, A Bola reports that Braga have made contact with Man City over a potential loan move. It’s also stated that there is interest from the player from England and Spain.
Celtic have no viable right-back options at the club outside of Anthony Ralston.
Braga make contact over Yan Couto; Celtic need to decide their own right-back options
There’s been nothing reported on Celtic making contact with City. That’s despite the fact there’s an undoubted rush to get new signings in the door.
Especially when it comes to the right-back position too. Celtic watched on as Hatem Elhamed and Jeremie Frimpong left the club mid-season last term. Yet still, as we begin the new Premiership season on Saturday, we sit here having failed to replace either of them.
It’s another issue that Celtic should’ve sorted in January. When Frimpong left, a long-term option should’ve been sourced. We still had time to do a deal, and panicking into a loan move for Jonjoe Kenny did us no favours at all.
But even between January and the summer, a host of options should’ve been ready for Ange Postecoglou to peruse. He’s now been in the hot seat for over a month and still we feel no closer to solving what’s become a frustrating position for us.
Couto may or may not be the answer. Same goes for the likes of Aurelio Buta and Benson Anang. But what can’t be denied is that Celtic need two options in the door before the transfer window closes.
If Celtic are serious about moving for Couto, they’ll need to get a move on with Braga apparently sniffing.
