Postecoglou looking forward to imminent Celtic squad reinforcement from Starfelt and Furuhashi

Ange Postecoglou is looking ahead to upcoming challenges rather than ruminating on the costly defeat to Midtjylland last night.

The Danes are through to the next round of Champions League qualification at our expense.

It was a deeply disappointing night of action.

However, the manager is insistent Celtic will be in better shape for the tie against Czech side Jablonec.

He told BT after last night’s exit: “We are going to get some reinforcements. Carl Starfelt is going to come in, Nir Bitton will be available, Kyogo Furuhashi will come in. Already we will be stronger in terms of depth and quality.

“Guys like James Forrest, that was his first full run and he will be better for it.

“I do believe we will get stronger and I do believe we will be in much better shape come the next European tie.

“More importantly, I want to make sure we start the league well on Saturday and that’s our focus right now.”

Starfelt ready to join Celtic training, Furuhashi status unclear

Starfelt was unveiled at the stadium today and will join Celtic for training tomorrow at Lennoxtown. He’s already declared himself ready to face Hearts at Tynecastle so should be good to go for the league opener.

The Swedish defender will also take part in a new fan media event via Zoom tomorrow which we will be attending.

Furuhashi’s situation is less clear. Bizarrely, Postecoglou doesn’t seem to have been asked about the Japanese talent in recent days so we can only assume he is still going through quarantine.

That means he’ll likely miss the trip to Hearts and the focus will be unleashing him against Jablonec. Given he has been playing regularly competitive football with Vissel Kobe until recently, fitness shouldn’t be a problem.

These two incoming players are a start, but much more work needs done by the club for Ange to have a truly competitive squad.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou’s latest Celtic transfer comments are very telling.
