Potential Celtic target Patrick Roberts thanks Girona after “difficult season” in Spain

Former Celtic star Patrick Roberts has thanked everyone at Girona, but admitted that he’s has a difficult season in Spain.

Roberts has spent a year-long loan at the La Liga outfit. He made a decent enough 21 appearances, but he would’ve been targeting more when he first joined. He heads back to Manchester City with no goals to his name in Spain either.

He’s failed to really be a standout since joining the Spanish outfit. And with his City contract coming to an end in the near future, his long-term future is now up in the air.

And speaking on Instagram, the former Celtic man has admitted that he’s had a tough season.

“Thank you to everyone at gironafc for all the support you have shown me in what has been a difficult season. I wish you nothing but success for the future”

The time is right to now swoop for Roberts

Celtic could do themselves a real favour in the summer and make a viable offer to City for Roberts. This would now e the perfect time to get him too.

Due to his failure to stand out in Spain, there may be little in the way of potential suitors. English Premier League interest has cooled, with no reports having made clear any other potential avenues for Roberts to exploit.

If he was to stay in England, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he had to drop back down to the Championship. So everything is set up nicely for Celtic if they want to make a move.

It would be one of the most crowd-pleasing signings of the summer too. Regardless of how his La Liga campaign has gone, we all know the damage that Roberts can do in Scotland. He was our best winger during his first loan spell at the club,  before injury halted him from being the same in his second.

Nobody knows how much Roberts could be worth either. But Celtic, therefore, need to ask the question of City. They surely aren’t overly keen on keeping him.

If ever there was a time to pounce on signing Roberts, it’s now.
