The Callum McGregor rumours just won’t go away, with Premier League interest only just hotting up.

Yesterday, the story of the Celtic midfielder impressing Bournemouth hit the headlines. Many Hoops supporters will have had a chuckle. McGregor’s ambitions certainly couldn’t be met down at the Cherries, as he’s capable of much better than that.

There’s no denying, however, that this is likely to lead to a more competitive race for the Celtic man’s signature.

The Hoops will fancy their chances of holding onto their star-man. McGregor signed a new contract tying him to Parkhead until the summer of 2021. He’s also previously touched on staying at Celtic for the rest of his playing career.

Yes, when it comes to selling the Scotland international, Celtic hold all of the aces. A link to Bournemouth isn’t likely to turn McGregor’s or supporters’ heads for that matter.

It wouldn’t be surprising, however, if the midfield maestro started gaining interest from all over in England. The likes of West Ham United, Southampton, and Fulham are three teams who need someone like McGregor in their side.

A host of traits

He’s brave, is willing to take the ball under pressure, and a real goal-threat. That’s just a few of his many traits, with Brendan Rodgers consistently praising his man.

In today’s market, McGregor is worth at least £20million. Whoever decides to come in with that amount of money would be making a solid investment. Would he go for more than Moussa Dembele however? Highly doubtful to say the least, but he is worth it.

When you look at the money players in England’s second and third tiers go for, however, then why not? The Celtic midfielder is better than most other midfielders in the Premier League. Any approach for him will be met with stubborn resistance that will only be swayed by heavy cash.

Even though Bournemouth are the first to have their name linked with McGregor, many will have their eyes on him. This could lead to a huge bidding war in January, but it remains one that Celtic would rather miss out on seeing.
