Some promising footage of Celtic centre-back Stephen Welsh has emerged after he appeared to pick up an injury for Scotland U21s last night.
With only 5 minutes to go and the young Scots 2-0 down to Belgium, Welsh limped off in a worrying scene for Celtic supporters and manager Ange Postecoglou.
However, in more promising images, Welsh was seen walking without any issue over to the supporters post-match as he handed his jersey to a young Scotland supporter:
Welsh played the vast majority of the game against Belgium and also featured in the 1-0 win over Kazakhstan.
The Celtic star had been drafted into the first-team for recent games against Ferencvaros and Dundee respectively. With Carl Starfelt also recently suffering a hamstring knock, Welsh has been an important cog for Postecoglou.
Hopefully, he doesn’t report back from Scotland duty with any major concerns.

Stephen Welsh remains an important player for Celtic
When Starfelt is fit, Welsh is likely going to have to drop back down onto the bench. But even so, his presence is absolutely vital given he’s the first reserve and a very dependable one at that.
What’s promising about the footage above is that the limp he supposedly had wasn’t present. He looked as though he was walking very comfortably and without issue. With a bit of luck, his substitution was only precautionary.
Scotland U21 boss Scott Gemmill has yet to come out and explain how the player is faring. It’s likely Celtic fans may have to wait until Friday’s pre-St Johnstone presser to find out what state he’s truly in.
Even if Welsh misses the game against the Saints on Saturday, it doesn’t look like an injury that’s going to be keeping him out for the long-term. Not with how easily he’s walking.
Even so, should Starfelt and Welsh both be out, that poses a slight problem for the Celtic manager. It’s likely that he would ask Nir Bitton to again pull himself back into centre-half duty once more. That wouldn’t be ideal, but it could be a case of needs must.
Hopefully, Ange can give us some clarity about the player’s situation before the weekend.
