He might only have arrived at Celtic this week, but the signs are there that Marian Shved could be a key figure for Celtic next season.

The winger recently ended his season with former club FC Karpaty, and so good were his performances that he has been called up to the Ukranian national squad, as revealed by the official Celtic website.

Shved scored 15 goals for his team last season – interestingly he played much of the season as a striker. Whilst his natural position is on the wing, the fact that he played a striker could be telling come next season.

The Hoops have struggled to score goals at times this season. Shved could be a solution to that problem. Indeed, it is unfortunate that the player cannot make his debut for the Hoops this season.

A pity he can’t play this season

However, it is all about next season for the player. It is a good thing that he has begun training with his new team-mates. He will need time to get used to playing in Scotland. This will give him a head start ahead of what is likely to be a frantic season.

The signing of Shved could ironically be one of the best pieces of business Brendan Rodgers was involved with in his time at Celtic. The signs are there that he could be a star man for the Bhoys.
