Pundit makes ‘a bold’ and bizarre claim about Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and Rangers’ Philippe Clement

Out of all the opinions about Celtic and Rangers over the last few weeks, this has to be one of the most bizarre ones yet.

Brendan Rodgers lost his first Glasgow Derby game against Philippe Clement as Celtic went down 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox just under a week ago.

Before that, Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final after coming from behind to win the trophies on penalties.

In both games, Rodgers’ team never really hit top gear and was pushed all the way by a Rangers side who threw everything but the kitchen sink at them.

Before those two fixtures, Rangers failed in five attempts to beat Celtic losing four and drawing just once. So when radio pundit, Ewen Cameron, made this claim about both managers it certainly raised our eyebrows.

Pundit claims Rangers’ Philippe Clement has Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers’ ‘number’

Cameron told The Big Scottish Football Podcast [16m], “I’m going to make a bold claim here. Philippe Clement has Brendan Rodgers’ number.

“He has his number. The last two Old F-rm games, Rangers battered them on both occasions. Yes, they might have lost the Cup final on penalties, but overall, over the piece, in the Cup final, Rangers were head and shoulders the better team.

“In the Old F-rm game, Rangers were head and shoulders ahead of Celtic, so I think he’s got Brendan Rodgers’ number. And here’s the thing with Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Clement.

“Clement might have Brendan Rodgers’ number when it comes to the Old F-rm games but that’s because Philippe Clement and Rangers are set up to play against better teams where there’s a counterattack inside, like in Europe.”

Celtic’s record vs Rangers puts pundits claim to bed

Everybody knows Celtic have been the dominant force in the Glasgow Derby for the best part of four years now as the Parkhead club heads towards their fourth title in a row.

But against Clement, Rodgers’ record has been almost flawless. For all Cameron can say Rangers pushed Celtic in the last two games, ultimately, they have won one in seven. That’s hardly a record that screams Clement has sussed Rodgers out.

It’s comments like these that leave Celtic fans scratching their heads. Now if Clement can muster another result in the next derby at Celtic Park, then maybe, just maybe, Cameron has a point.

But until then, comments like this do him no favours.
