Callum McGregor has been ‘Mr Consistent’ for Celtic over the years and is a key player for the club.
That fresh-faced youngster, who played alongside Scott Brown in the middle of the park for a number of years, has now also taken the leadership mantel from the Celtic legend and done a very good job of it.
Those words were echoed by Andy Walker, who added that it’s ‘rare’ that Callum McGregor hardly gets injured and how he is a ‘tremendous professional’, as he told Go Radio.
Whilst Matt O’Riley gets the headlines and plaudits for having a stellar season in Celtic colours this season and his numbers back it up.
Callum McGregor next to him is quietly going about his business without the numbers backing it up.
But the reliability has been there, as proven by the fact that the team is sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table, even though Sunday’s result at Kilmarnock was one to forget.
Captain Fantastic
“Tremendous professional,” said Walker. “A real tribute to his dedication. The way he goes about his work. The way he lives his life. He just wants to play every game.
“The fact that he is so fit. It’s rare. I think the last injury he had was a facial injury. He had that mask on for a while. Celtic miss him when he doesn’t play.
“I know he has been playing slightly forward recently. He has got a couple of goals, so there is a different style to Callum McGregor. He is the real leader in the middle of the park.”

Reaction from Celtic
That defeat to Kilmarnock is now going to require McGregor to get the Celtic players off the floor and back to producing top-quality performances again.
The issue with the Kilmarnock defeat was the fact that this type of result was coming because you could see it in past performances.
As Scott Brown pointed out, there will be a reaction and it also needs to be remembered that the team is still sitting at the top of the tree.
