‘Quite worrying’… Why Ross McCormack is troubled about Celtic’s League Cup win

The fallout of Celtic’s League Cup win over Rangers has been overshadowed by the penalty award circus that has surrounded the game.

Willie Collum has had to clarify the Celtic incident as he admits Rangers should have been awarded a penalty kick.

This, of course, will not go down well with one-half of Glasgow but at least it detracts from one undeniable truth about Celtic’s win on Sunday.

And that is about to be shared by former Rangers player, Ross McCormack.

Ross McCormack points out Rangers fan desperation due to Celtic’s dominance

McCormack told Superscoreboard, “Listen, it’s not going to change the outcome in the league, for sure, but I think Rangers fans, they probably need something to hold on to.

“I think the last two performances, Tottenham and Celtic, have shown that there’s something there to work with.

“And probably two, three months ago, everyone was questioning if there was anything there to work with. I think Igamane came out of nowhere, he’s doing really well.

“They brought Hagi into the team, Bajrami has been playing well. Czerny looks to me like a different player from the start of the season. I called him at one point, like a little boy. I thought he was getting bullied a lot off the ball, but he seems a different player.”

Ross McCormack’s brutal truth about Celtic will worry Rangers fans

Now despite taking Celtic to extra-time and penalties, McCormack is not getting carried away. In fact, the former Rangers man says that even though his old team put in a decent performance in the cup final, he’s still worried about Celtic.

“But I think for me,” warned McCormack, “Looking at the game on Sunday as well, one of the main things that I took away from the game was the fact that Celtic was so poor and yet they’ve still gone and scored three goals against Rangers.

“Whether it’s a draw, whether it’s a defeat, whatever it might have been, they’ve still scored three goals against Rangers and they didn’t play well at all. I think that’s quite worrying for Rangers to be honest with you.”

And this is something that has been missed over the last few days. The gap between Celtic and Rangers has gotten bigger from last season. No matter how the Ibrox club played on Sunday, that is undeniable.

But for now, it’s back to league business as Celtic take on Dundee United on Sunday as Brendan Rodgers looks to put the cup win behind him and focus on defending his title.

Another win keeps Celtic in pole position for the league title where Rangers and Aberdeen play 24 hours earlier.

Any slip-ups by either of those will give Celtic a huge incentive heading into the New Year derby in just under two weeks time.
