Ralph Hasenhuttl praises Celtic’s Mohamed Elyounoussi; Scottish tabloid embarrasses itself with negative spin

Earlier this week, Celtic boss Neil Lennon hit out at a “media driven” campaign of negativity towards him and his players.

On Friday evening we got another dose of that as a positive Celtic story was turned into a negative one. Just like that.

The player in question was Mohamed Elyounoussi – the man who netted both of our goals in the credible 2-2 Europa League draw with Lille.

Less than 24 hours later, his parent side Southampton’s boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said some nice things about him.

As per the Daily Record, Hasenhuttl said: “I am very deeply invested in what my loan players do and I am very happy for (Elyounoussi) that he scored and I am happy to see it.

“And, definitely, the player has a chance to maybe come back in and to be a part of the team, maybe next year.”

The Scottish Sun make it a negative Celtic story

All good there then? A positive comment from an impressive manager, on an impressive solo performance from our Bhoy Moi.

How could it possibly go wrong?

Well, barely an hour later and the Scottish Sun were reporting the quotes with the headline: “Celtic’s hopes of keeping Elyounoussi set to be killed off by Southampton boss Hasenhuttl”.

The quotes were the exact same. There was no extra comment from Hassenhuttl. Just a bit of negative spin.

Of course, this is nothing new. We regularly see negative stories written for the sake of a few hits, with little actual substance.

I’m sure the Sun had numerous similar articles this time last year, and would surely have given us little chance of re-signing Elyounoussi for this season.

We’ll try and keep things positive on here. And bask in the glory of perhaps Elyounoussi’s finest performance for the club.

What happens in the summer simply isn’t relevant right now.

In other news, Celtic could face the possibility of playing some league matches on midweek afternoons this season
