Former Celtic defender Ramon Vega reckons it’s the players who need to take the responsibility for performances this season, not Neil Lennon, writing on Twitter over the weekend.
The Martin O’Neill-era player, who is a former teammate of Lennon, said: “I think the players at Celtic needs to take responsibility of the performances lately. They need to start to realise what it means to win the 10th for Celtic. Such a big achievement it will be never forgotten for such a big club like Celtic.”
The players have, of course, received some criticism for the way they played against their city rivals but much of the fallout has been focused on Neil Lennon and his future.
Fans have rushed to social media to call for him to go, while others feel at the very least he is on borrowed time if performances don’t improve.
Still, there are some who feel that this is a kneejerk reaction and that Lennon can still dig us out of a hole, as Vega represents here.
In truth, regardless of public opinion, it’s highly unlikely that the club is going to make the decision to sack the manager anytime soon.
Unless there is a complete collapse in results following the derby, Lennon will have the time to turn around the dire displays that have become commonplace.
It is interesting that ex-players such as Vega and Alan Thompson have been publicly backing the manager – some conspiracy-minded people may well think that’s no coincidence, especially with his agent also on Twitter defending his record.
These fans have taken to Twitter over the last 24 hour to respond to Vega’s comments…
