Rangers-daft pundit Kris Boyd reckons fans of the Ibrox club want Celtic to reach the Scottish Cup Final by defeating Aberdeen tomorrow, The Scottish Sun reports.
Neil Lennon’s Bhoys are on the brink of an unprecedented quadruple treble, having won the last eleven domestic trophies in the league and cup competitions.
With last season’s Scottish Cup now due to be completed before the end of the year, Celtic have the chance to add another piece of silverware to the collection.
The Dons stand in our way at Hampden tomorrow. The winners of that fixture will face Hibernian or Hearts in the final on December 20th.
Despite our recent form, Lennon’s side remain favourites for the competition.
Clearly, this is a positive thing for Celtic, but Boyd has decided to put a brave face on it all and pretend it’s a good thing for Rangers.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “It could work to Rangers’ advantage. In a strange way, I think a lot of the club’s fans wouldn’t mind Celtic winning at Hampden.
“It would mean another game in an already-crammed fixture list for Neil Lennon’s men and force them to rearrange yet another league match.
“There would also be the potential for Rangers to be 12 points clear ahead of the next Old Firm clash at Ibrox. Yes, Celtic would have games in hand but playing catch-up is never easy and I know what position I would rather be in.”
Well, Kris, I’m pretty sure Celtic would rather be in a strong position to win actual trophies and not made up achievements in October.
This Celtic side are very well accustomed to playing a huge amount of games every season, and while Rangers may crow about their points lead, everyone on the other side of Glasgow will know they are in our sights.
An early cup win could be huge for the confidence of Lennon’s players, as our League Cup win was last season. We came back in the new year and romped ahead at the top of the table.
There’s no doubt Celtic haven’t been playing at top form this season, but a quadruple treble achievement could be just the thing we need to push towards ten-in-a-row.
I don’t think any Rangers fans will be celebrating a Hoops semi-final win tomorrow, regardless of what Boyd says.
