Rangers defender George Edmundson has commented on Celtic’s form, and tipped them to slip up at some point.
It was hardly a bold prediction from the Ibrox man. Edmundson never even featured in the 2-0 defeat for Rangers at the hands of Celtic two weeks ago. In fact, the centre-back has only played four times for Steven Gerrard’s side this season.
Meanwhile, Celtic have been storming it domestically this season. They’ve netted 17 goals in four Premiership matches, and have opened up a cool three points gap at the top of the table. All of the momentum is now with the eight-in-a-row champions.
But Edmundson looked to cool talk of Celtic’s blistering start. Instead, he predicted a slip-up at some point, before stating Rangers will win the next derby. Speaking to the Daily Star, here’s what he had to say:
“It’s still early days in the season and I’m sure Celtic will slip up at some point. I don’t think they are going to go the whole season unbeaten. It was a little hiccup, but there’s a long season with ups and downs to come.
“The atmosphere was good. But the atmosphere will be better next time – when we win!
Yeah, ok George
The battling talk was out there at the end. Apparently they’re now coming to Celtic Park and will win there. There was undoubtedly a bit of tongue-in-cheek there, but you can sense the fear from Ibrox.
The fear of the idea that we’re not actually anywhere near as bad as they like to make out. The fact that, whenever Celtic get asked serious questions in Scotland, they answer them convincingly.
Ever since the game, there seems to have been some form of comfort taken in this idea that we actually didn’t outplay them. It started when Steven Gerrard was keen to say it post-match (The Scotsman). This idea that they gifted us the win and we didn’t outplay them.
But it’s all just desperate stuff. Celtic earned everything they got at Ibrox. In the end, they were by far the better team, and the fact Fraser Forster spent about 85 minutes on a sunbed sipping a pina colada tells you that.
Interestingly, Edmundson talks about Celtic not going the whole season unbeaten. Nobody has even mentioned that. Is this a bit of doubt creeping into the Rangers camp even this early on?
They’re desperately trying to comfort themselves with whatever they can after the loss. The idea that Celtic aren’t great. The idea that we didn’t actually outplay them. Perhaps the idea that they just gifted us our goals. It’s all laughable, and Edmundson’s comments won’t help the Rangers camp either.
