The Scottish Premiership is officially underway for the 2024/25 season and it has started in a rather pleasing fashion for those of a Celtic persuasion.

Hearts and Rangers raised the curtain in a live TV match from Tynecastle on Saturday afternoon. Although both sides had their chances, the match finished 0-0.

Philippe Clement’s side looked poor and unprepared for the challenges ahead, struggling to take control of the game throughout the 90 minutes. There are serious questions about the direction of travel under a manager they just handed a new contract to.

The Celtic squad and staff always stay focused on what they can control, but it’s undeniable an opening day opportunity now presents itself to the Bhoys.

Celtic can put on a show against one of last season’s toughest foes

Derek McInnes’ side will have a lot to say about that, of course. They performed well against Celtic last season – not only knocking Brendan Rodgers’ outfit out of the Scottish League Cup but also taking four points off the champions in the Premiership.

A strong performance against the Ayrshire side can really set the tone for what can be another very successful season at Celtic Park.

And moving two points clear of our closest expected title challengers Rangers on the opening weekend would be a fantastic way to build momentum into the new campaign.

Brendan Rodgers has projected Celtic confidence

Rodgers was a very happy man in his pre-match media conference. He even stated it was the best period of pre-season work he’s seen one of his squads go through in his career.

Celtic looked electric on their USA tour but against a more combative and defensive foe in Kilmarnock, we need to see that same urgency and intent to secure victory.

The Premiership is already off to an entertaining and newsworthy start, now it’s on Celtic to show their teeth ahead of a long ten months.
